HISTORY
2nd Cambusnethan Company was formed and met on 12th November 1951 in Cambusnethan North Parish Church Halls. Under the leadership of its first Captain; Mr Tom Harris the Company has grown steadily building upon a number of achievements and successes. In 1957 Robert Forbes and Ross Brown were our first Queens Men, gaining the highest and most prestigious award within The Boys' Brigade, since then a number of young men have gained this award and a full list can be found in the Roll of Honour page.
In 1962 Alec Rattray and Jim Patterson gained the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, the first members of any youth organisation in the old Motherwell & Wishaw Burgh to do so. More recently in 1995 the Company Section won the BB National Indoor Five-a -Side Football Competition, a tremendous achievement considering the high number of companies entering from all over the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and also this coupled with the fact that we finished Runners up in the previous year. In both finals 70th London and 2nd Cambusnethan came head to head, both getting a bite at the cherry of victory.
As with all BB Companies, the annual summer camp has proven very successful since the very first one in 1953 held indoors at Cockenzie Parish Church in Port Seton and has continued in such exotic places as Rothesay, Morecambe, Paignton (The English Riviera), Great Yarmouth, Scarborough and Bridlington. Today the Company is self sufficient and owns all its own canvas including three marquees, has impressive catering equipment; Cooker, Deep Fat Fryer, Bain Marie/Hot Cupboard and has a wealth of additional support equipment for camp craft and catering.
Celebrating 50 Years in 2001, the Company had a year full of various activities which catered for everyone, for those who attended the events, we are sure you had a great time.
